TB Community Systems Strenghtening Project - Machakos County (2023-2025)
TB Community Systems Strengthening Project” has been implemented by PEACE in partnership with Amref Health Africa under the Global Fund TB Grant, focused on empowering youth as frontline community health volunteers (CHVs). PEACE recruited and trained 300 CHVs, the majority being unemployed or underemployed youth aged 18–29. The program was designed to mirror an apprenticeship model, with participants undergoing structured field orientation, mentorship by health workers, and deployment to TB hotspots across Machakos County. Over 120 CHVs were retained in long-term roles supporting health campaigns, community surveillance, and contact tracing. The project incorporated digital mobile tools for monitoring CHV performance, case referrals, and household visits, providing real-time data to support decision-making. This initiative demonstrated PEACE’s capacity to manage job-linked community programs with results-based tracking mechanisms, making it a strong parallel to NYOTA’s OJE and job placement framework.
UNICEF linked Apprenticeship Program and WASH linked vocational Training Program - Makueni County (2021-2022)
The project, “WASH-Linked Vocational Training Program,” integrated support from UNICEF-linked WASH clusters and collaboration with the local government. PEACE implemented a skills development initiative for youth in the WASH sector. The program targeted 80 youth from underserved communities in Makueni, training them in practical trades such as water system plumbing, latrine construction, sanitation marketing, and hygiene education. The training was complemented by structured apprenticeships in county government WASH departments, private contractors, and community water projects. Forty participants were successfully placed, with several securing longer-term contracts beyond the apprenticeship phase. The program integrated soft skills development, on-site mentorship, and gender-sensitive placement strategies. It served as a model for using infrastructure-linked development sectors to absorb and skill vulnerable youth.
Food Security and Livelihood Initiative - Kitui and Machakos County (2021-2023)
PEACE partnered with FAO and local agribusiness actors to deliver a rural youth empowerment project focused on agricultural value chains. A total of 250 youth were trained in poultry rearing, horticulture, seed preservation, and basic agribusiness management. Practical demonstration farms and cooperative linkages were used to create apprenticeship-style exposure in the farming sector. Sixty youth completed seasonal placements on commercial farms, learning harvesting, marketing, and sustainable production methods. Another 40 launched small agribusinesses under the guidance of project mentors. The program also linked youth to input suppliers and savings groups to support transition to economic independence. This project confirmed PEACE’s strength in coordinating field-based learning tied to job creation.
Volunteer to Earn (V2E program )
This internally funded pilot connected out-of-school youth
with volunteer roles designed to develop workplace discipline, leadership, and
professional networks. Youth were engaged in civic education campaigns,
community mobilization, and administrative support roles under PEACE and
partner organizations. Sixty youth participated, with 40 receiving
performance-based stipends. Twelve participants transitioned into formal
employment with NGOs, county governments, or small businesses following the
mentorship phase. The program integrated digital attendance tracking,
supervisor evaluations, and career coaching. It highlighted PEACE’s ability to
support vulnerable youth on a pathway from unpaid experience to
income-generating employment through structured support.
